OABA Coppersmithing Demonstration

Stephen White from Two Smiths will provide a full day of instruction about techniques and processes for forming and working with copper. Topics to be covered include the following:

Tooling:
An overview of particular tools and equipment necessary for working with copper: raising hammers, planishing hammers, nibbler, hammering stakes, dies, shaping cauls, chasing tools, pine pitch etc.

Forming:
Hollowing Raising Chasing and Repousee
Bending edges over
How to create lock joints and standing seams
Use of an arbour press to form hemispheres

Finishing:
Planishing
A little bit about Patinas
Buffing/ polishing
Waxing

Joinery:
Soft soldering
Silver soldering
Riveting sheet copper together
Tig welding

Pattern Development:
1. How to develop and lay out patterns for copper range hoods with complex curves
2. Demonstration of making forms that transition from square to round

The workshop starts at 8:30am and runs until about 4:00 pm.

It is a demonstration only, no hands on.....Please bring a chair, also for your safety- Eye and Ear protection!

There is only room for 30 People.
