This is the tentative list of basic level programs being offered for 2014 by Darrell Markewitz at the Wareham Forge :

Introduction to Blacksmithing

February 15 & 16
This is a special 'early' program, limited to TWO students. Work will be undertaken using propane gas forge only, Saturday and Sunday.

March 7 - 9
April 18 - 20
May 16 - 18
June 20 - 22
July 11 - 13
September 12 - 14
October 24 - 26
November 14 - 16

This is an 18 hour program that stresses a hands on approach, with a Friday evening lecture and two full working days in the forge. Only 4 students per session, each with their own work station, means close personal attention. Projects include poker, tongs, punches and one small decorative item.

Other programs available for those with limited or no forge experience:


This two day, 16 hour program introduces you to two different metal casting methods:
Pewter in Soapstone
Bronze in Sand
Students will cut moulds, create master patterns, then use both to make a number of finished small objects in both metals.

March 1 & 2
November 22 & 23


This two day, 18 (+) hour session is for FUN, FUNCTION - and PREPARATION. Learn the basics of building a simple forge, improvising an anvil and other tools, all while making your own bladed weapons for the Upcoming Zombie Apocalypse! Projects include a spear head and single edged cleaver to add to your bug out kit. This program does not require any previous metalworking experience, and is of interest to anyone wanting to be truly prepared!

A deposit ($100) holds your place for these programs.
Normally programs are limited to *four* students.
All courses are intended for *adult* students (older than 16 please). Parents are advised to read 'Teens as Students' :

A simple 'bunkie' style cabin can be reserved ($30 per night).
Camping style overnight spaces (in the yard) available on request.

Start your 2014 forging experience on the right path with these weekend programs which will introduce you to the correct working methods, the tools needed for a basic workshop - and teach you a good selection of basic techniques.
