Notices > Slimming of a sword

I am an actor combatant with a bit of an odd request. I have a hanwie Bastard sword that is too thick to be comfortably wielded in a broadsword fashion. I'm looking for someone to remove some metal from the thinkness of the blade while still maintaining functionality. The end result could be a slightly different shaped blade, ie, longer. If the job is successful, there would likely be several more job offers of a similar nature from another source.

Thank you,

Hi Noah,

If I understand what you're asking for, you want to have your sword reforged into a longer, thinner blade. If that's what you want, you would be better off buying another sword. If you're happy with swords from Hanwie, you're probably not looking for custom blacksmith swords, and reforging a sword would probably take about as long as making on from scratch. Even if you're looking for having the sword ground down to make it thinner, it would have to be re-heat-treated and polished, both of which a are big jobs. This would probably end up costing you at least several hundred dollars, and if you're looking for it to be reforged it would be much more, depending on who you go to and what you want them to do.

Hope this helps, and good luck.
