Glengarry Pioneer Museum “Smith-In,” 25-26 June 2016

The Glengarry Pioneer Museum is excited to welcome blacksmiths to our first-ever Smith-In!

The Glengarry Pioneer Museum Smith-In is an opportunity for you to meet smiths and metal workers from across Ontario, Quebec, and New York state. There will be a gunsmithing demonstration, and we encourage any other educational seminars, demonstrations, and presentations you might want to share with your fellow smiths and our interested patrons. We also hope that you might help us to outfit the newly-restored forge in our Oliver Hamelin blacksmith shop with a working set of smith’s tools.

If you wish to sell any products to museum visitors, we can help arrange a space to display your wares.

The museum reconstructed the forge in its blacksmith shop in 2015. The Williams Pavilion is an open-sided timber frame barn with gravel floor that can accommodate working smiths. The Big Beaver schoolhouse can accommodate seminars and meetings. The museums other buildings can accommodate various sorts of displays.

There is ample onsite parking for trucks & trailers.

There will be spaces reserved onsite for any participant who wants to camp (tent or RV). Water and toilets are available.

Nearby accomodations (less than 15 minutes) include:

 the White Rock Motel, 169 Main St. North, Alexandria ON (613) 525-2362

 Microtel Inn & Suites, 17 Rue Industriel, Casselman ON (866) 417-3550

Food & Drink:

Vendors will be selling food onsite in the afternoon both days. We are looking into the idea of vouchers for smiths and demonstrators.

Local craft beer will be sold in the Star Inn, one of the oldest barrooms in Eastern Ontario.

Food can also be found in the nearby towns of Alexandria, St Isidore, and Maxville.

Please help our staff & volunteers prepare for this exciting event by letting us know that you’re coming and indicating any assistance we may provide. We’d appreciate hearing from you by June 1, 2016.
