Brian Brazeal
Location to be determined
OABA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting Brian
Brazeal for a
demonstration/workshop on Sept. 7th-9th, 2012. Viewing for
all three days is free
to all OABA members, participation in the workshop is limited to 20
people, on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
David Brandow had this comment on LOCATION:
"It isn't written in stone yet, but we're pretty sure it'll be held in Belwood. More details to come soon, hopefully."
For those of you not familiar with Brian's work, here's what he has to say about
himself:
"Brian Brazeal began rediscovering traditional blacksmithing as a horseshoer
over 25 years ago. Brian gave up shoeing to practice traditional forging full
time, traveling in the US and Europe and was fortunate to have been exposed
to
some well known smiths like, Professor Alfred Habermann, his son Alfred Jr.
and
his sons Josef and David and Alfred's daughter Christine. as well as Tom Clark,
Bob Patrick, Bill Bostas, Darrell Nelson, Terry Carson and Tsur Sadan to name
a
few.
Brian now continues to share and promote the techniques of this lost craft in
an effort to bring traditional blacksmithing back to the world by demonstrating
and sharing his practical experience and vast forging information in clinics
and
workshops for all skill levels. Including the forge welded bundle, tools to
make
tools, collering and "forged to finish" hammers."
Most recently, here's what ABANA president Peyton Anderson had to say about
Brian
in the Fall 2011 Anvil's Ring:
"I have never in my life met anyone who sees, teaches, and describes the
forging process like Brian. He will inspire you. He has inspired me on many
occasions. One of the very best, in my book."
The cost of the workshop will be for an early bird price of $275
plus, probably,
HST. All material and fuel is supplied, you will be working in pairs, and you
will
go home with hammer and anvil tools. Spaces in the workshop are nearly gone,
so if
you are interested, I would encourage you to contact our president, Mick Smith,
at
(519) 843-6655 or e-mail to reserve
your space as soon as possible.
In case participation in the workshop isn't in the cards for you, remember that
viewing the demonstration or the subsequent workshop is free, so book your
calendars now.
Safety Glasses are Mandatory whenever you are in the demonstration area.
